A horrific case of child exploitation has come to an end in Alabama after a Monroe County resident was sentenced to 9 years in prison for his role in coercing and enticing a minor into sexual activity.
Eric Davis, 39, of Monroeville, Alabama, was handed down a 108-month prison sentence by United States District Judge William H. Steele after pleading guilty to one count of coercion and enticement of a minor. As part of his sentence, Davis will be required to pay a $100 special assessment and serve a life term of supervised release upon his release from custody.
The case against Davis began on August 31, 2017, when a federal grand jury for the Southern District of Alabama charged him with one count of coercion and enticement of a minor and one count of transfer of obscene material to a minor. Davis pleaded guilty to the coercion charge on November 7, 2017, before Judge Steele.
According to court documents, Davis used a cell phone to knowingly persuade, induce, entice, and coerce a 15-year-old victim into engaging in sexual activity in June and July 2016. The victim was a resident of Monroe County, Alabama, and Davis knew that the victim was less than 18 years old at the time of the offense.
Davis was interviewed by the Excel Police Department on July 11, 2016, where he admitted to exchanging explicit pictures with the victim via cell phone. During the interview, Davis signed a statement admitting to sending a penis picture to the victim and discussing sexual activity with them via text messages.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Excel Police Department investigated the case, with Assistant United States Attorney Sinan Kalayoglu prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
