Eric Davis, Coercion and Enticement of a Minor, Alabama 2017

Eric Davis, 39, of Monroeville, Alabama, is headed to federal prison for nine years after coercing a 15-year-old girl into sexual activity using his cell phone. Davis was sentenced to 108 months by U.S. District Judge William H. Steele on charges of coercion and enticement of a minor, a case that laid bare the predatory use of digital communication to exploit children.

The Southern District of Alabama’s U.S. Attorney Richard W. Moore confirmed the sentence, which includes a $100 special assessment and a lifetime of supervised release upon Davis’s eventual freedom. The judge also ordered mandatory mental health and sex offender treatment under the direction of the U.S. Probation Office—conditions imposed due to the predatory and calculated nature of the crime.

Davis was indicted by a federal grand jury on August 31, 2017, on two counts: coercion and enticement of a minor, and transfer of obscene material to a minor. On November 7, 2017, he pleaded guilty to the coercion charge in a plea deal that included a sworn factual resume detailing his actions—admissions that would later seal his fate.

According to court documents, between June and July 2016, Davis used his cell phone to persuade, induce, and ultimately coerce the underage victim into sending explicit photos and engaging in sexual conversations. The crimes occurred in Monroe County, where Davis knew full well the girl was only 15. Text logs revealed graphic exchanges and plans for a physical meeting—plans that culminated in sexual intercourse on July 5, 2016.

On July 11, 2016, Davis was questioned by the Excel Police Department. When confronted with a photo of a penis pulled from the victim’s phone, he wrote and signed a statement: “This is the picture of my penis I sent to [the victim] from my old phone.” He admitted to frequent sexting and flirtations involving kissing and sex, painting a damning picture of manipulation and predation.

The case was investigated jointly by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Excel Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sinan Kalayoglu prosecuted, ensuring Davis faced the full weight of federal law. With a 108-month sentence and lifelong supervision, the justice system delivered a measure of accountability—though for the victim, the scars will outlast any prison term.
