Lloyd Christopher Young, 32, of Fayetteville, Georgia, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after being convicted of receipt and possession of child pornography, a grim reminder of the dark corners of the digital underground where children are exploited for sick gratification.
The images and videos recovered from Young’s computer and USB drive—seized during an FBI raid in 2015—numbered over 950 and depicted some of the most vulnerable victims: children between the ages of five and twelve, with additional images showing infants. Authorities say Young didn’t just stumble upon the material—he actively searched for and downloaded it, fueling a market built on the sexual abuse of minors.
U.S. Attorney Byung J. “BJay” Pak didn’t mince words: “The defendant downloaded and viewed disgusting videos and pictures of young children being sexually abused. His conduct helped further the sexual exploitation of children and cause irreparable harm to these young victims, all for his personal pleasure.” Those words cut to the heart of a crime that re-victimizes children every time an image is viewed.
David J. LeValley, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Atlanta office, emphasized the ongoing trauma inflicted by consumers like Young. “Each time Young viewed the unconscionable images of innocent young children, they were re-victimized,” LeValley said. “We strive every day to protect our children and will continue to use every law enforcement resource available to identify and prosecute individuals who exploit them in such a manner.”
Convicted by a jury on November 7, 2017, Young was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Timothy C. Batten, Sr. His decade-long prison term will be followed by lifetime supervised release, during which he must register as a sex offender. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jolee Porter.
This prosecution was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 by the Attorney General to combat online child exploitation.
