Scott Myers, Receipt of Child Pornography, New York 2018

Scott Myers, 26, of North Tonawanda, NY, pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography, a crime that carries a mandatory minimum of five years in federal prison, U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced today. The charge, filed in Buffalo, exposes Myers to up to 20 years behind bars and a $250,000 fine.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango, Myers initiated contact in November 2013 with a 14-year-old girl through an internet dating site. The communication quickly turned to explicit territory via text messages on Kik and Skype. He repeatedly demanded sexually graphic photos from the victim, which she sent and he stored on a thumb drive—later found to contain at least nine images of child pornography depicting the minor.

Myers knew the girl was underage at the time. Investigators confirmed he wasn’t deterred by her age, instead escalating the abuse through digital coercion and exploitation. The case reveals a calculated grooming pattern, using accessible platforms to manipulate a minor into producing illegal content.

But the abuse didn’t stop there. Myers also engaged in online sexual communications with a second minor—a 13-year-old girl—using the same messaging apps. Authorities uncovered that he maintained possession of child pornography beyond the images from the first victim, storing illegal material across multiple devices, including a cell phone, two laptops, and a tablet.

The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation under Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Kevin P. Lyons, with critical support from the Cheektowaga Police Department, led by Chief David Zack, and the Blasdell Police Department, directed by Lieutenant Joseph Gramaglia. Digital forensics played a central role in cracking the case and linking Myers to the illicit content.

Sentencing is set for May 23, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. before Senior U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny. The conviction marks another grim chapter in the ongoing battle against online predators who exploit children through technology with chilling precision.
