In a shocking turn of events, Eric M. Dillon, 27, of Gary, Indiana, allegedly entered a 7-Eleven store in Hammond, Indiana, with a handgun and committed a heinous crime.
The incident occurred on January 20, 2016, at approximately 4:30 am, when Dillon entered the 7-Eleven store located at 6031 Hohman Avenue, Hammond, Indiana. He demanded money from the clerk while brandishing a handgun.
Unfortunately, the situation took a deadly turn when Dillon shot and killed the store clerk. The case has left the community reeling in shock and outrage.
United States Attorney David Capp expressed his strong stance against such crimes, stating, ‘This tragic act of violence will not be tolerated in our community. My office and federal law enforcement will continue to utilize all of our resources to work with our state and local partners to apprehend and prosecute these perpetrators.’
The case is being investigated by the Hammond Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office. Assistant United States Attorneys Thomas M. McGrath and Jennifer Chang are leading the prosecution.
Dillon is charged with one count of Hobbs Act Robbery, one count of using a firearm during a crime of violence, and one count of causing death during a crime of violence. The indictment is merely an allegation, and all persons charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
