A 40-year-old man from Hazard, Kentucky, Eric Edward Shuffler, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for armed methamphetamine trafficking and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
According to authorities, Shuffler was stopped by law enforcement on August 4, 2020, and found to have a loaded 9mm handgun in the backseat of his car, along with a black bag containing 210 grams of methamphetamine, digital scales, and $3,051 in cash.
Shuffler pleaded guilty to the charges in October 2021 and admitted to intending to distribute the methamphetamine and carrying the firearm for his protection in his drug trafficking activities.
Under federal law, Shuffler must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence, which translates to 102 months in prison.
Upon his release from prison, Shuffler will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for life.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI, and the United States was represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nick Rabold.
This case is part of the ‘Project Safe Neighborhoods’ Program, a nationwide crime reduction strategy aimed at decreasing violent crime in communities.
