A Meridian man has been brought to justice for violating federal firearms laws. According to court documents, Ernest Quintez Clark, 24, was found in possession of a handgun while attending a Meridian High School football game on October 20, 2023.
This egregious crime occurred in the city of Meridian, Mississippi, where Clark was in clear violation of federal law. As a convicted felon, Clark is prohibited from possessing firearms.
The Meridian Schools Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the case, which has been prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program. This program aims to reduce violent crime through a comprehensive approach that includes enforcement efforts and prevention programs.
Clark is scheduled to be sentenced on October 1, 2024 and faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Todd W. Gee of the Southern District of Mississippi and Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
