A federal court in Louisiana handed down a sentence to Ernesto Contreras-Reyes, a 42-year-old Mexican national, for his role in using a Social Security number illegally.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Ernesto Contreras-Reyes pleaded guilty to a one-count indictment charging him with illegal use of a Social Security number.
The case was investigated by the United States Department of Homeland Security and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Spiro G. Latsis.
On March 15, 2024, U.S. District Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle sentenced Ernesto Contreras-Reyes to time served and placed him on supervised release for one year. Following the completion of his sentence, Ernesto Contreras-Reyes will be surrendered to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings.
The U.S. Attorney’s office praised the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security in investigating this matter.
