ERRIE McCLENDON, a 28-year-old man from New Haven, Connecticut, has been charged with a serious crime. According to Grimy Times sources, McCLENDON was arrested today and charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
The indictment, which was returned on June 11, 2019, alleges that on May 11, 2019, McCLENDON possessed a Ruger, model P85, 9mm pistol with an obliterated serial number. This is a clear violation of federal law, as a person previously convicted of a felony offense is not allowed to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.
McCLENDON’s past is marked by felony narcotics and larceny offenses, and it is alleged that he was in possession of the firearm despite being a convicted felon. The maximum term of imprisonment for this offense is 10 years, and if convicted, McCLENDON could face this severe punishment.
The investigation into McCLENDON’s activities was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the New Haven Police Department. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Peter D. Markle and Jocelyn Courtney Kaoutzanis as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer for everyone.
U.S. Attorney John H. Durham stressed that charges are only allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. McCLENDON was ordered detained pending trial and has been in custody since June 19, 2019, when he was arrested on a state probation violation charge.
