Muskogee, Oklahoma – In a shocking turn of events, Ersy Gregorio Umanzor Lopez, a 33-year-old Honduran national, pleaded guilty to one count of Unlawful Reentry of Removed Alien.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, Lopez was found in the United States without obtaining the express consent of the Secretary of Homeland Security to reapply for admission to the United States after having been previously removed on October 20, 2017, September 8, 2017, and January 12, 2018.
The charge arose from an investigation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement Division and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Lopez faces a maximum sentence of not more than two years in prison and a fine of not more than $250,000.00. He will remain in the custody of the United States Marshals Service pending sentencing.
The Honorable Jason A. Robertson, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted the plea and ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report.
A U.S. District Court Judge will determine the sentence to be imposed after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
