Ervin Sentenced for Felon Firearm Possession

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Deddrick Ray Ervin, 35, faced justice this week as U.S. District Judge Robert J. Conrad Jr. sentenced him to 46 months in prison, followed by two years of supervised release, for possession of a firearm by a felon.

Ervin’s sentence was announced by Dena J. King, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, joined by Bennie Mims of the ATF and CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings.

According to court documents, law enforcement officers encountered Ervin in Charlotte on December 12, 2022. Ervin attempted to evade arrest after failing to stop his vehicle during a routine patrol. He was later located hiding in a shed, where police found him along with drugs and a firearm.

Ervin pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon on August 8, 2023. The defendant has prior convictions for being a felon in possession of a firearm in Georgia and kidnapping in South Carolina, making him prohibited from owning firearms.

Currently in federal custody, Ervin will be transferred to the Bureau of Prisons for his sentence. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alfredo De La Rosa prosecuted the case, which is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney King commended the ATF and CMPD for their work on the investigation.
