SCRANTON – Eshawn Harrell, a 31-year-old man from Hazleton, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 130 months in prison for possessing with intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine and possessing firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking.
According to Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus, investigators executed a search warrant at Harrell’s residence on June 29, 2023, and seized approximately 195 grams of fentanyl, 24 grams of cocaine, and other drug-related items. The items seized include sandwich bags, digital scales, glassine bags, a vacuum sealer, $1,000 in U.S. currency, seven iPhones, 50 rounds of ammunition, and two loaded handguns.
Harrell had previously been convicted of drug trafficking and was not legally permitted to possess firearms or ammunition. This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that aims to combat the invasion of illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.
The matter was investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police, the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Assistant United States Attorney Jenny P. Roberts prosecuted the case.
Harrell’s sentence demonstrates the seriousness with which the authorities take the issue of drug trafficking and the possession of firearms by convicted felons. The sentence will undoubtedly serve as a deterrent to others who may be considering engaging in similar activities.
