Evan Andrew Bubbers, Distributing Child Sexual Abuse Images, Florida 2021

Evan Andrew Bubbers, a 21-year-old Navy airman from Bettendorf, Iowa, pleaded guilty to distributing child sexual abuse images and video over the internet. The crime took place in Jacksonville, Florida, on March 17, 2021.

According to court documents, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service investigated the case after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. The investigation revealed that Bubbers had distributed the images and video using a social media application. During an interview, Bubbers admitted to uploading and sharing the material, including a video that was the subject of the initial tip.

The investigation found that the distribution of the images and video was connected to Bubbers through the internet service at his barracks residence at Naval Air Station – Jacksonville. A cell phone search also uncovered the same video that was the subject of the initial tip.

Bubbers faces a mandatory minimum term of 5 years and up to 20 years in federal prison. A sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ashley Washington.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.

Bubbers was arrested on March 30, 2021, at Naval Air Station – Jacksonville. He is currently awaiting sentencing. The charges against him include distributing materials depicting the sexual abuse of children over the internet.
