Newnan, Ga. – Drevion Evans has been sentenced to federal prison after his multiple arrests for possession of machineguns and attempts to traffic marijuana.
Evans, 24, of Lithonia, Georgia, was handed a sentence of six years, six months in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release following convictions on three counts of possessing a machinegun and one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
The charges stem from Evans’ attempts to convert semiautomatic Glock pistols into fully automatic machineguns. On August 15, 2022, police in Chamblee, Georgia, discovered an illegally modified pistol during a traffic stop, leading to his initial arrest.
Evans was also caught in October 2023 when he tried to arrange the delivery of another fully automatic pistol and a pound of marijuana. The package contained 16 one-ounce bags of marijuana and a loaded, converted pistol that had been reported stolen.
Further investigations by local law enforcement led to Evans’ arrest on outstanding warrants from Carroll County, Georgia, where they found yet another modified firearm in his vehicle.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg prosecuted the case, which is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence.
