EVANSVILLE- The grimy details of a heist that shook Evansville banks were laid bare as Dekoda Scott Clark, 32, from Tell City, Indiana, faced justice. Clark has been sentenced to serve 2.5 years in federal prison for his role in the theft of over $158,000 from customer accounts.
Clark, a former Relationship Banker at an Evansville bank branch, pleaded guilty to bank theft and access device fraud. His greed-driven acts, which spanned from January 2023 to March 2024, resulted in the loss of $158,208.53 from unsuspecting customers’ accounts.
Between unauthorized cash withdrawals and issuing fraudulent debit cards, Clark’s cunning exploitation of his position led him to purchase high-value tech items such as Apple iPads, MacBook Pros, and televisions. One particularly brazen move saw him deposit $2,000 into his own account at Draft Kings, an online sports betting platform.
His theft also included the unauthorized withdrawal of $142,500 from three individuals’ accounts. The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, Tom Wheeler, emphasized the severity of Clark’s actions, stating that his betrayal of trust not only victimized individual customers but also eroded confidence in the financial system.
“Instead of serving his bank’s customers, Dekoda Clark lavishly served himself by illegally taking their money to pay for video game systems and other expensive tech gadgets,” said Ike Barnes, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Secret Service’s Indianapolis Field Office. The FBI and Evansville Police Department played pivotal roles in this investigation, ensuring that justice was served.
U.S. District Judge Richard L. Young imposed the sentence, which also includes three years of supervised release. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew B. Miller successfully prosecuted the case, bringing another example of accountability for white-collar crime to light.
