Ever Omar Valdez, Cocaine Trafficking, New Mexico 2017

Two El Paso men have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a cocaine trafficking operation in New Mexico.

Ever Omar Valdez, 26, was sentenced to 33 months in prison, while his co-defendant, Javier Cruz, 27, received the same sentence.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico, Valdez and Cruz were arrested on October 6, 2016, after U.S. Border Patrol agents seized approximately six kilograms of cocaine at a checkpoint near Alamogordo.

The cocaine was concealed in the vehicle’s rear bumper, which was discovered during a routine inspection.

Valdez and Cruz each entered guilty pleas to a felony information charging them with conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to distribute.

In their pleas, they admitted to knowingly bringing the cocaine into the United States and intending to deliver it to others in exchange for money.

The case was investigated by the DEA’s Las Cruces office and the U.S. Border Patrol. Assistant U.S. Attorney Clara N. Cobos prosecuted the case.

Valdez and Cruz will serve a two-year term of supervised release after completing their prison sentences.
