Raykwon Stevenson, 25, of Marion, Iowa, sentenced to 12 months and 1 day in prison

A former employee of a federally licensed firearms dealer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been sentenced to a year in federal prison for stealing a handgun from his employer while at work.

Raykwon Stevenson, 25, of Marion, Iowa, received the prison term after a March 1, 2021, guilty plea to one count of theft of a firearm from a federally licensed firearms dealer.

According to information from the guilty plea and sentencing hearing, Stevenson was employed by a federally licensed firearms dealer in Cedar Rapids. While working at the dealer, Stevenson stole a .22 caliber handgun from the dealer’s inventory. After discovering the theft, the dealer notified law enforcement, who confronted Stevenson and recovered the stolen handgun.

Stevenson was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams. Stevenson was sentenced to 12 months and 1 day in prison, followed by a three-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

Stevenson was released on the bond previously set and is to surrender to the United States Marshal on August 26, 2021.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Morfitt and investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Cedar Rapids Police Department. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an evidence-based program aimed at reducing violent crime.

Stevenson’s sentencing marks another success for Project Safe Neighborhoods, which pairs law enforcement with prevention and reentry programs to address violent crime in communities.
