A former Milwaukee alderman is facing federal charges after allegedly pocketing $30,000 in a brazen wire fraud scheme built on lies and political deception. Willie C. Wade, 56, was indicted by a federal grand jury on three counts of wire fraud, accused of falsely claiming he could deliver a corrupt vote from a sitting alderman in exchange for cash to approve a downtown strip club.
According to the indictment, Wade took the $30,000 from a cooperating individual, allegedly telling them he was negotiating on behalf of a current Milwaukee alderman who would accept the bribe to vote in favor of licensing the adult entertainment venue. In reality, the targeted alderman had no knowledge of Wade’s scheme and never agreed to accept any bribe—nor was there any actual arrangement to influence a city vote.
Each count of wire fraud carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and as many as three years of supervised release following incarceration. The charges expose the underbelly of political manipulation, with prosecutors alleging Wade exploited his former position to project influence he no longer possessed.
U.S. Attorney Matthew D. Krueger announced the charges, crediting the FBI’s Milwaukee Division for their relentless work in uncovering the fraud. The investigation relied heavily on recorded conversations and financial tracking that traced the flow of cash from the cooperating source to Wade, building a timeline of deceit that prosecutors say is rock-solid.
The case has been assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorneys Richard G. Frohling and Paul L. Kanter, who will lead the prosecution. While no current elected official is implicated, the indictment underscores the vulnerability of public trust when former insiders peddle phantom influence for personal gain.
As with all federal cases, Willie C. Wade is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The Justice Department reminded the public that an indictment is merely a formal accusation, not a conviction—though the evidence trail, if proven, paints a damning picture of political grift in the heart of Milwaukee.
