David C Weiss, Blue Light Tribute, Delaware 2023

WILMINGTON, Del. – A somber reminder of the devastating impact of terrorism will be felt across Delaware this weekend as the U.S. Attorney’s Office commemorates the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

U.S. Attorney David C. Weiss has launched a Blue Light Tribute initiative, calling on businesses and building owners throughout Delaware to join in honoring the fallen, first responders, and military members who continue to answer the call to duty.

‘Saturday, September 11, 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Towers and the Pentagon, and the heroic crash of United Flight 93 in the fields near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. We seek to pay tribute to the fallen, their families and friends, and the first responders who ran to the danger on 9/11 and who continue to serve our communities today. We ask all Delaware businesses and government organizations to join us in our Blue Light Tribute to those brave men and women – the law enforcement officers, medical workers and military personnel who dedicate their lives to keep us safe,’ stated U.S. Attorney Weiss.

The Blue Light Tribute involves placing flameless, battery-operated, blue tea lights in office windows beginning Friday, September 10. Businesses and building owners can also light up their buildings in blue by replacing the white light bulbs outside the building with blue light bulbs.

Weiss encourages everyone in Delaware to participate in this meaningful tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. ‘We want to honor the memories of the victims of 9/11 and pay respect to the service members, law enforcement officers, and first responders who continue to put their lives on the line every day,’ he said.

‘We are proud to join the nation in remembering the tragic events that occurred on 9/11 and the heroic actions of those who responded,’ added Weiss. ‘We hope that this Blue Light Tribute will serve as a reminder of the importance of their service and the sacrifices they have made.’
