BOSTON – In a stunning revelation, former New Hampshire police officer John Giarrusso, 49, has been indicted for the receipt of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
The 49-year-old from Haverhill was once a trusted member of the Seabrook, N.H., police force but now finds himself facing serious federal charges. Giarrusso was arrested and charged with one count of receipt of child pornography in August 2025.
According to charging documents, between October 16 and October 17, 2024, Giarrusso knowingly received video files depicting CSAM on the messaging app Kik. The children featured in these disturbing videos were approximately five to 11 years old.
The gravity of Giarrusso’s crime is underscored by the potential sentence he now faces. If convicted, the former officer could be sentenced to a minimum of five years and up to 20 years in prison. Additionally, he may face at least five years of supervised release and a fine reaching $250,000.
The investigation leading to Giarrusso’s arrest was a collaborative effort involving the Haverhill Police Department, Essex County District Attorney’s Office, and Homeland Security Investigations in New England. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica L. Soto is handling the prosecution of this case.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children and identify and rescue victims.
