New York, NY – Eyal Alperof of Tarrytown, New York, is facing civil charges of fraud and misappropriation of funds, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced today. The CFTC filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York alleging Alper defrauded members of the public by soliciting funds for futures and forex trading accounts he falsely claimed to manage.
The complaint details allegations that Alper misappropriated at least $280,000 from investors. According to the CFTC, Alper improperly mixed customer funds with his personal finances and failed to open the promised trading accounts. Instead, he allegedly sent fabricated statements to customers, falsely reporting profits in non-existent accounts.
The CFTC is seeking restitution for the defrauded investors, along with disgorgement of any ill-gotten gains. Additionally, the agency aims to impose civil monetary penalties, and secure permanent registration and trading bans for Alper. A permanent injunction to prevent future violations of federal commodities laws is also being pursued.
The investigation received assistance from the U.K. Financial Conduct Authority. Alan Edelman, Kara Mucha, Daniel Jordan, and Rick Glaser of the CFTC’s Division of Enforcement are leading the case. The CFTC noted a recent increase in forex trading scams, issuing a fraud advisory to warn potential investors about red flags.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of the CFTC to protect investors from fraudulent schemes in the commodities and forex markets. The agency urges individuals to exercise caution and thoroughly research any investment opportunities before committing funds.
