Faith Man Jailed for Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation Burglary

A brutal home invasion on the Cheyenne River Sioux Indian Reservation in July 2024 left two people shaken. Dalton Hump, 34, of Faith, South Dakota, was the perpetrator. He’s now done for First-Degree Burglary after a federal jury convicted him in Pierre, South Dakota.

The crime went down on the evening of July 10, 2024, in Ziebach County. Hump allegedly assaulted two people inside a residence before being forced outside. The FBI and Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services investigated the attack.

Hump was indicted in October 2025 and his trial wrapped up on April 2, 2026. Assistant U.S. Attorney Wayne Venhuizen prosecuted the case. A presentence investigation has been ordered, but sentencing has yet to be scheduled.

Hump faces up to 25 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He’s currently being held in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
