A Berkeley County man will spend up to 10 years behind bars for making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm, officials announced. Ronald Louis Browning, 33, pleaded guilty to the charge in federal court on charges of lying on a form while buying a 9mm pistol in December 2020 in Berkeley County.
Browning’s guilty plea stems from his admission to making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm. According to court documents, Browning admitted to lying on the form to purchase the 9mm pistol. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives investigated the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government, with the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives. U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the case.
Browning now faces up to 10 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
