Fareed Abdul Jabar, 34, Sentenced to 46 Months for Felon in Possession of a Firearm in South Carolina

Columbia, SC – In a federal court in Greenville, South Carolina, United States Attorney Beth Drake announced that Fareed Abdul Jabar, 34, of Atlanta, was sentenced to 46 months followed by three years of supervised release for felon in possession of a firearm, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g).

The sentence was imposed by United States District Judge Michelle Childs. The evidence presented at the change of plea hearing established that on March 29, 2017, a Greenville County Sheriff’s Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a car driven by Jabar. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the seizure of a loaded Glock .40 caliber pistol and marijuana.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, along with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), investigated the case. This case is part of the Real Time initiative. Assistant United States Attorney Max Cauthen in the Greenville U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case.

The Real Time Initiative is part of South Carolina’s continued application of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that has been historically successful in bringing together all levels of law enforcement to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has made turning the tide of rising violent crime in America a top priority. In October 2017, as part of a series of actions to address this crime trend, Attorney General Sessions announced the reinvigoration of PSN and directed all U.S. Attorney’s Offices to develop a district crime reduction strategy that incorporates the lessons learned since PSN launched in 2001.

Fareed Abdul Jabar’s sentence marks another success in South Carolina’s efforts to combat violent crime and make our communities safer.
