Incendiary Device Attack in Butler County
A disturbing act of violence unfolded in Butler County, Ohio, when a New York man ignited an incendiary device near a victim’s home, causing significant damage to the property.
According to federal court documents, Farhan Jami, 29, of East Meadow, New York, constructed an incendiary device using thermite, sparklers, and a ceramic pot. He placed the device on the hood of a car at the victim’s home and lit the sparklers before fleeing the scene.
Home security footage captured Jami wearing a hat, surgical mask, and gloves while committing the crime. Responding officers located Jami in a nearby vehicle, where they found a lighter, hat, mask, gloves, and a bag of thermite.
Jami’s actions resulted in a two-hour flight from New York to Ohio, where he purchased thermite and sparklers. He then traveled to the victim’s residence and committed the crime in the early morning hours of May 16, 2023.
As a result of his actions, Farhan Jami was indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2023 and pleaded guilty in October 2023. On [date], U.S. District Judge Matthew W. McFarland sentenced Jami to 46 months in prison for possessing an unregistered incendiary device.
