Farrell Man Admits to Cocaine, Fentanyl & Gun Trafficking

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Daniel George, 36, of Farrell, Pennsylvania, is facing a substantial prison sentence after admitting to a brazen scheme involving the trafficking of crack cocaine, fentanyl, and the illegal possession of a firearm. The guilty plea, entered before Chief United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak, confirms George’s involvement in a dangerous criminal enterprise that brought poison and weaponry to the streets.

According to Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti, George pleaded guilty to two counts stemming from a July 7, 2022 incident. The first charge centers around possession with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of cocaine base – crack – alongside unspecified quantities of fentanyl and cocaine. The second charge directly links him to possessing a firearm while actively engaged in this drug trafficking operation. This isn’t a simple possession case; it’s about arming a drug pipeline.

Federal law doesn’t mess around with these offenses. George is looking at a minimum of 10 years behind bars, and potentially life in prison. A hefty fine of up to $5,250,000 could also be levied. The ultimate sentence will be determined by the severity of his crimes and any prior convictions on his record – a full accounting will be made before Judge Hornak.

The takedown of George was a collaborative effort. The Mercer County Drug Task Force, the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, the FBI, and the ATF all contributed to the investigation that built the case against him. These agencies worked in concert to dismantle a piece of the drug trade in Western Pennsylvania and get a loaded weapon off the streets. Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller is leading the prosecution.

This case is being touted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a broad initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence nationwide. PSN isn’t just about arrests, officials say; it’s about rebuilding trust with communities, supporting local organizations fighting violence, and focusing law enforcement resources where they’re needed most. But at the end of the day, it’s about putting criminals like George away.

The Department of Justice launched a revamped PSN strategy in May 2021, emphasizing community engagement alongside targeted enforcement. While the program aims for long-term solutions, the immediate impact of cases like George’s is clear: one less drug dealer and one less gun in circulation. Sentencing for George has not yet been scheduled. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as they become available.
