PITTSBURGH – It’s a chilling tale of gun-toting thievery, and 20-year-old Joshua Stewart of Farrell, Pa., is at the center of it. According to federal prosecutors, Stewart has been indicted by a Pittsburgh grand jury for violating federal firearms and robbery laws.
The DOJ’s USAO in Pennsylvania lays out the grim details: On December 20, 2011, Stewart allegedly joined forces with an accomplice to rob the B&M Market, a small convenience store nestled in Farrell. The loot? Cash and cigarettes, all stolen under the barrel of a firearm that was carried, used, and discharged during the crime.
For his audacity, Stewart now faces serious federal charges. If convicted, he could spend anywhere from ten years to life behind bars, with a fine that could soar up to $250,000. The severity of the sentence will hinge on the offenses’ gravity and any prior criminal history.
The Assistant United States Attorney Eric S. Rosen is leading the government’s charge against Stewart. Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Southwest Mercer County Regional Police, and the Mercer County District Attorney’s Office have been hard at work on this case, leading to today’s indictment.
But remember, an indictment is merely an accusation. Stewart is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
