FDIC Appoints Three New Bankers to MDI Subcommittee

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has announced the appointment of three new bankers to its Minority Depository Institutions (MDI) Subcommittee, signaling a renewed focus on community development and financial inclusion. Claude J. Bowman, President and CEO of Bay Bank in Green Bay, Wisconsin; B. Doyle Mitchell, President and CEO of Industrial Bank in Washington, D.C.; and Farid Tan, President and CEO of Metro City Bank in Doraville, Georgia, will join the committee.

The MDI Subcommittee, a part of the Advisory Committee on Community Banking, is crucial for the FDIC’s efforts to support and enhance minority-owned banks. The panel aims to provide feedback on strategies that benefit these institutions, foster collaboration, and identify best practices within the industry.

Set to meet on May 31st, the subcommittee will address pressing issues impacting minority communities and financial institutions. Key topics include highlighting private funds such as the MDI Keepers Fund, Black Economic Development Fund, and Mission-Driven Bank Fund that support these critical institutions.

The new members join a distinguished group already serving on the committee, including Deron Burr of People’s Bank of Seneca, Warren Huang of Amerasia Bank, Russell Lau of Finance Factors, Ltd., Alden J. McDonald Jr. of Liberty Bank & Trust Co., Gilbert Narvaez Jr. of Falcon International Bank, and Angel Reyes of Centinel Bank of Taos.

For those interested in the subcommittee’s public meeting, a webcast will be available at 1:00 p.m. EDT on May 31st. The archived meeting can be accessed approximately two weeks after the event.
