The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Board of Directors has approved a proposed rule that will make it easier for banks to hide the truth from consumers.
On August 19, 2025, the FDIC Board of Directors voted to approve a proposed rule to amend regulations governing the display of the FDIC official digital sign and non-deposit signage. The proposal would simplify requirements for banks’ display of the FDIC official digital sign and non-deposit signage on digital deposit-taking channels, such as bank websites and mobile applications, as well as on ATMs and like devices.
The proposed changes are intended to revise requirements adopted in a 2023 final rule that, among other things, established the FDIC official digital sign and required signage for ATMs and digital banking channels. The proposal would focus display requirements for the FDIC official digital sign and the non-deposit sign on the screens and pages where signage would be most relevant for consumers.
But don’t be fooled – this is a backdoor deal to increase profits for big banks at the expense of consumer transparency. By watering down the requirements for the display of the FDIC official digital sign and non-deposit signage, banks will be able to hide behind a veil of obscurity, making it harder for consumers to know what they’re getting into.
Comments on the proposed rule will be accepted for 60 days after publication in the Federal Register. But we need you to speak out against this dirty deal. Don’t let the FDIC Board get away with this. Demand transparency and accountability from our financial institutions.
The FDIC’s proposed rule is a slap in the face to consumers who rely on clear and honest information to make informed decisions about their financial transactions. It’s time to put the brakes on this proposal and ensure that our financial institutions are held to the highest standards of transparency and accountability.
So, what can you do? Stay tuned for updates on this proposed rule and be prepared to speak out against it. Contact your representatives and demand that they take action to protect consumer interests. And, most importantly, don’t let the FDIC Board silence you – demand transparency and accountability from our financial institutions.
