WASHINGTON – A shocking sex harassment scandal has rocked the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), with multiple high-ranking executives facing allegations of misconduct.
According to sources, the Special Committee of the FDIC Board of Directors has been working with the law firm of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP (Cleary Gottlieb) to conduct an independent review of the agency’s workplace culture.
The review, which began in 2024, has thus far received over 350 reports from current and former FDIC employees, with many coming forward to share their experiences of sexual harassment and hostile, abusive, unprofessional, inappropriate, or other interpersonal misconduct.
The Special Committee is urging anyone with information to come forward, and has established a dedicated hotline (202-974-1643), email (FDICinvestigation@cgsh.com), and electronic form (https://www.fdicinvestigation.com/) for reporting purposes.
In a stunning move, the FDIC has agreed to waive any confidentiality restrictions that may have prevented employees from discussing their experiences or management’s responses to the allegations. This allows individuals to share documentation or other information related to the harassment, misconduct, or workplace culture with investigators.
The Special Committee aims to complete its review in the second quarter of 2024, but the fallout from this scandal is already being felt. The FDIC’s reputation is in tatters, and the agency’s leadership is facing intense scrutiny. As the investigation continues, one thing is clear: the culture of harassment and misconduct at the FDIC must be addressed, and those responsible must be held accountable.
The FDIC’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) and Congress are also involved in the investigation, and the public is urged to come forward with any information they may have. The Special Committee’s efforts are a crucial step towards creating a safer and more respectful workplace for all employees.
