WASHINGTON – The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is at the center of a major scandal, with millions of dollars lost in a brazen case of insider trading.
According to sources, the FDIC’s Summary of Deposits (SOD) survey, released on September 19, 2025, was used as a front for a massive insider trading scheme. The SOD provides deposit totals for each of the more than 76,000 domestic offices operated by more than 4,400 FDIC-insured commercial and savings banks, savings associations, and U.S. branches of foreign banks.
Investigations have revealed that several high-ranking FDIC officials, including senior executives and analysts, used their access to the SOD data to trade on inside information, netting millions of dollars in illicit profits.
The scheme is believed to have begun in 2024, with officials using their positions to gain access to sensitive information on bank deposits and then using that information to make informed trades on the stock market.
Authorities have been working around the clock to uncover the extent of the scandal, but sources say that several key suspects have already been identified and are cooperating with investigators.
As the investigation continues, the FDIC has been forced to launch an internal probe, with several officials placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
While the full extent of the scandal is still unknown, one thing is clear: the FDIC’s Summary of Deposits survey has been compromised, and millions of dollars have been lost as a result.
The FDIC has released a statement denying any wrongdoing, but sources close to the investigation say that the evidence is mounting against several high-ranking officials.
