FDIC Special Committee, Workplace Harassment and Misconduct Investi…

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Special Committee has issued a statement on the independent review of its workplace culture, specifically addressing allegations of sexual harassment and interpersonal misconduct.

Established to oversee the third-party review, the Special Committee encourages individuals who have witnessed or experienced such misconduct at the FDIC to come forward. Contact methods include a dedicated hotline (202-974-1643), email (FDICinvestigation@cgsh.com), or an online form on this link. Reports can be submitted anonymously.

The independent review, conducted by the law firm of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, is examining allegations of sexual harassment and other interpersonal misconduct, as well as management’s response to these issues. It also evaluates practices that may deter reporting or responding to such incidents.

More than 350 people have already contacted Cleary Gottlieb, with the Special Committee aiming to respond within 48 hours for those providing contact information. Interviews are being conducted with FDIC staff across various divisions and regional offices.

In a move to facilitate cooperation with the independent review and investigations by the FDIC’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) and Congress, the FDIC has waived confidentiality restrictions that typically prevent employees from discussing specifics of their case or management’s responses. This allows individuals to share documentation or other information related to harassment or workplace culture with investigators, even if it contradicts terms of a settlement agreement or nondisclosure agreement.

The Special Committee aims to complete its independent review in the second quarter of 2024.
