Feds Detain 57 Illegals in NY Worksite Sweep

ALBANY, NEW YORK – A major immigration enforcement operation conducted by federal law enforcement officers in Cayuga County on September 4 has resulted in the detention of 57 individuals unlawfully present in the country. Among those detained, five have been criminally charged for illegally reentering the United States after prior removal—a felony offense that poses a significant threat to our national security and community safety.

Each defendant is facing separate charges, with the complaints against them containing mere accusations. They are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. The operation was not only an enforcement of immigration laws but also a blow for fairness for hard-working Americans who deserve access to all well-paying jobs within their communities, which have been struggling with high unemployment rates.

U.S. Attorney’s remarks highlighted that while they are not commenting on the specific employer involved in last week’s operation, it is crucial to note that employers who knowingly hire unauthorized workers are violating the law and contributing to a system that harms the economy, public safety, and the value of lawful employees’ hard work.

Employers across the Northern District of New York were warned to take heed of this warning. The U.S. Attorney’s Office pledged to aggressively pursue criminal investigations against those who employ non-citizens without authorization, emphasizing that the era of turning a blind eye is over.

The Attorney also recognized the positive contributions of lawful immigrants but made it clear that illegal reentry after deportation is a flagrant violation of federal law and will not be tolerated. The Office vowed to continue working closely with Homeland Security Investigations, Border Patrol, IRS, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and other agencies to identify violators and hold them accountable.

Expect to see federal law enforcement at more worksites in the future as they commit to enforcing immigration laws fairly, firmly, and without exception for the American people’s sake.
