MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA – March 2024
A federal indictment has been unsealed charging 48 individuals with participating in a massive fraud scheme that exploited the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
The indictment alleges that the defendants, who were associated with various organizations and businesses, submitted false claims to the USDA for reimbursement of meals that were not actually provided to children. The scheme is believed to have resulted in over $250 million in fraudulent claims.
The charges include conspiracy, wire fraud, and money laundering. The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota, with assistance from the USDA Office of Inspector General and the FBI.
