A 47-year-old Mexican national has been handed a harsh sentence for his role in a despicable crime. Felix Raymundo Mora-Gonzalez, a resident of Mexico, was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), announced U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei.
Mora-Gonzalez pleaded guilty to the charges on February 20. U.S. District Judge Rolando Olvera handed down the sentence, which also includes $13,000 in restitution to the known victims. Mora-Gonzalez will serve 25 years on supervised release following the completion of his prison term.
During his supervised release, Mora-Gonzalez will be required to comply with numerous restrictions designed to prevent him from accessing children and the internet. He will also be ordered to register as a sex offender. Mora-Gonzalez was arrested on February 21, 2023, in connection with an alien smuggling investigation.
However, the investigation uncovered a cell phone at the stash house that belonged to Mora-Gonzalez. A forensic examination of the cell phone revealed that he knowingly possessed 29 videos and nine images of CSAM.
Mora-Gonzalez also pleaded guilty to the alien smuggling charges and was previously sentenced to 15 months. He will remain in custody pending transfer to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.
The investigation was conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Homeland Security Investigations and Border Patrol. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ana C. Cano, Israel Cano, and Joe Esquivel prosecuted the case, which was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood (PSC), a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
