Brent Getz, Child Rape, Pennsylvania 2024

Two Carbon County men, including Weissport Police Chief Brent Getz, 27, and Gregory Wagner, 28, have been arrested and charged with child rape. The arrests were announced by Attorney General Josh Shapiro, who revealed that the two men had sexually assaulted a young victim hundreds of times over seven years.

The investigation began in May 2012 when the victim, then 12-years-old, reported to a substitute teacher that Gregory Wagner, then 22-years-old, was sexually assaulting her. However, no charges were filed at that time due to a paperwork error. The case was reopened in August 2018, and the victim revealed that Brent Getz, who was Wagner’s friend, had also sexually assaulted her.

According to the victim, she was orally, vaginally, and anally raped by Wagner from age 4-11. She also reported that Getz would join in these assaults, and that Wagner often made her watch pornography with him. The victim’s disclosures and examinations were consistent with her prior reports, and agents found evidence of child pornography on Wagner’s electronic devices.

Attorney General Josh Shapiro stated, “The defendants terrorized this young victim by assaulting her hundreds of times over seven years. My Office will listen to survivors and prosecute anyone who sexually abuses children to the fullest extent of the law we are able—no matter how much time has passed.”

The case against Getz was referred to the Office of Attorney General by Carbon County District Attorney Jean Engler due to Getz’s position as a police officer. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Rebecca Elo. Agents executed a search warrant of Wagner’s residence and found numerous electronic devices, including his cell phone, which contained Google searches indicative of child pornography.

Wagner was interviewed and admitted to sexually abusing the victim over several years. He also admitted that Getz sexually abused the victim and that they would do so together. The arrests of Getz and Wagner are a result of the tireless efforts of the Attorney General’s office to bring predators to justice and prevent them from harming anyone else.

In a statement, Attorney General Shapiro emphasized the importance of listening to survivors and prosecuting those who commit heinous crimes against children. The case serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance and swift action in protecting vulnerable members of society. As the investigation continues, the Attorney General’s office remains committed to seeking justice for the victim and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
