Felon in Possession of a Firearm: Del City Man Faces Up to 10 Years

A Del City man is facing serious consequences after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. BOBBY LEE RUPPEL JR, age 37, was found guilty of violating Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2), punishable by no more than 10 years imprisonment, and up to a $250,000.00 fine or both.

The charges against Ruple stem from an investigation by the Henryetta Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The indictment alleged that on or about November 1, 2016, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma, the defendant, having been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, did knowingly possess in and affecting commerce, a firearm which had been shipped and transported in interstate commerce.

The Honorable Steven P. Shreder, Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee, accepted the plea and ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report. The defendant will remain in custody pending a sentencing hearing.

Assistant United States Attorney Kristin Harrington represented the United States in the case. The investigation was a joint effort between the Henryetta Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
