Harvey Lyn Tillman, Felon in Possession of Firearms, Alabama 2019

A Baldwin County man has been sentenced for being a felon in possession of firearms. Harvey Lyn Tillman, 38, of Perdido, Alabama, was found guilty of the crime and handed down a 37-month sentence.

Tillman’s guilty plea was accepted in November of 2019. The case was investigated by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

United States District Court Judge Jeffery U. Beaverstock imposed the sentence on February 26, 2020. As part of the sentence, Tillman will undergo testing and treatment for drug abuse during a supervised release term of three years.

Tillman was also ordered to pay $100 in special assessments, but no fine was imposed. The case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office by Assistant United States Attorney Gloria Bedwell.

The lengthy prison sentence sends a message about the consequences of breaking the law. ‘Harvey Tillman’s actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the law and a threat to public safety,’ said United States Attorney Richard W. Moore.

Tillman’s case serves as a reminder of the importance of community policing and cooperation between law enforcement agencies. The partnership between the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was instrumental in bringing Tillman to justice.

As a hardened journalist, I can tell you that this case is a prime example of the type of crime that Grimy Times is committed to exposing. We will continue to shine a light on the dark underbelly of society and hold those accountable for their actions.
