Felon Indicted on Drug and Gun Charges
A resident of Duquesne, Pennsylvania has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of violating federal narcotic and firearm laws, Acting United States Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman announced today.
According to the indictment, Brandon McCaskill, 35, is accused of possessing with the intent to distribute mixtures of controlled substances containing fentanyl, heroin, tramadol, and cocaine on August 17, 2020. The indictment also alleges that McCaskill was in possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
As a convicted felon, McCaskill is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition under federal law. The indictment further alleges that McCaskill possessed both a firearm and ammunition.
The law provides for a term of imprisonment of life and/or a fine of up to $2,000,000. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Brendan J. McKenna is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The Duquesne Police Department, The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Drug Enforcement Administration conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
