JACKSONVILLE, FL – Another repeat offender off the streets. Anthony Rodriguez, Jr. (32, Orange Park) is facing serious federal charges after being indicted on a firearm possession charge, the United States Attorney’s Office announced today. Rodriguez, already saddled with a lengthy criminal record, allegedly possessed a Glock pistol on May 11, 2024, a move that could land him back in prison for up to 15 years.
According to the indictment, this isn’t Rodriguez’s first rodeo. He’s a convicted felon, with seven prior convictions already on his record – two of them specifically involving firearms and ammunition. Federal law is clear: a person with that kind of history isn’t allowed to have a gun or bullets. The feds aren’t messing around; they’ve also filed notice they intend to seize the Glock and its ammunition as evidence and forfeit it.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) – Jacksonville Office, teamed up to investigate the case. These guys don’t just stumble onto these things; someone talked, or Rodriguez made a mistake. Either way, it’s brought him to the attention of federal prosecutors, and they’re prepared to make an example of him.
Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Frein will be handling the prosecution. He’s known for being a tough prosecutor, and Rodriguez is going to need a damn good defense attorney. An indictment is just the starting gun, of course. Rodriguez is presumed innocent until proven guilty, but his past record doesn’t exactly paint a picture of a reformed character.
This case falls under the umbrella of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. Launched in 2021, PSN emphasizes building trust with communities, supporting local anti-violence groups, and strategically targeting enforcement efforts. It’s a multi-layered approach, and Rodriguez is now a target in that broader strategy.
The Department of Justice is sending a clear message: illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon won’t be tolerated. Rodriguez’s fate now rests in the hands of the court. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the outcome. Expect a lengthy prison sentence if the evidence holds up – and with seven prior convictions, it likely will.
