Felon Tevin Abercrombie Sentenced to 78 Months for Gun Possession

BOSTON – Tevin Abercrombie, a convicted felon, was sentenced to 78 months in prison for being in possession of a firearm and ammunition while on federal supervised release, announced Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy.

Abercrombie, 29, was found with a loaded Taurus 9mm pistol with an obliterated serial number and seven rounds of 9mm ammunition during a traffic stop in April 2020. He was also on supervised release at the time of the offense.

A federal jury convicted Abercrombie in January 2024 of one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. This is not his first conviction for firearm and drug-related charges. In 2016, Abercrombie was convicted and sentenced to 60 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition and conspiracy to distribute cocaine base, cocaine, and heroin.

U.S. Senior District Court Judge Douglas P. Woodlock handed down the 78-month prison sentence, followed by three years of supervised release. Assistant U.S. Attorneys John T. Dawley and Fred M. Wyshak, III of the Organized Crime & Gang Unit prosecuted the case.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. The PSN strategy focuses on fostering trust and legitimacy, supporting community-based organizations, setting enforcement priorities, and measuring results.

Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox and James M. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Boston Field Division, also made the announcement.

Abercrombie’s repeated offenses and disregard for the law demonstrate the need for continued efforts to combat gun violence and hold individuals accountable for their actions. This sentence serves as a reminder that the consequences of such crimes can be severe and long-lasting.
