Boston Man Sentenced to 46 Months for Unlawful Possession of Ammunition
U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani handed down a harsh sentence to Tyreek Hall, 21, of Boston, for illegally possessing ammunition as a convicted felon. The sentence: 46 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
Hall pleaded guilty in September 2023 to one count of being a felon in possession of ammunition. This isn’t the first time Hall has run afoul of the law – in June 2022, he was found in possession of a 9x19mm caliber privately made Glock-style semi-automatic pistol, bearing no manufacturer serial number (commonly known as a ‘ghost gun’), and eight rounds of ammunition. At the time, Hall had been on parole for just one week, after an early release for a state conviction of assault with a dangerous weapon (a firearm).
Hall’s social media post from June 2022, posing with the gun, is a stark reminder of the dangers of reckless behavior. The image, shared publicly, raised red flags and led authorities to his doorstep. Hall’s prior felony conviction prohibits him from possessing a firearm or ammunition – a fact he chose to disregard.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts, in conjunction with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Boston Field Division, and the U.S. Marshal’s Service, worked tirelessly to bring Hall to justice. Assistant U.S. Attorneys John Dawley and Fred Wyshak, III of the Organized Crime & Gang Unit prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence across the country. By working together with local communities, law enforcement agencies are making progress in making our neighborhoods safer.
As the nation grapples with the scourge of gun violence, cases like Hall’s serve as a stark reminder of the importance of strict enforcement and community engagement. The sentence handed down by Judge Talwani is a just one – and a warning to those who would recklessly flout the law.
