BOSTON – In a move that sends a clear message to the streets, Victor Florentino, 29, was sentenced to 30 months in prison for unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition.
Florentino, a Boston native, was found in possession of a Glock 9mm pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition during a motor vehicle stop in Quincy in April 2022. What’s even more egregious is that he’s prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition due to a prior felony conviction in 2016 for firearms trafficking. To make matters worse, Florentino had only completed federal supervised release two months prior to his arrest.
The case against Florentino was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John Dawley of the Organized Crime & Gang Unit. Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy, James Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Boston Field Division, and Quincy Police Chief Paul Keenan made the announcement.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence. The Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.
U.S. District Court Judge Patti B. Saris handed down the sentence, which will be followed by three years of supervised release. Florentino pleaded guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition in December 2023.
As the streets of Boston continue to grapple with the issue of gun violence, this sentence serves as a reminder that those who break the law will be held accountable. Florentino’s actions not only put himself in danger but also the community at large.
