David Knezevich, Kidnapping, Florida 2024

A Fort Lauderdale man has been slapped with a kidnapping indictment in connection with his wife’s disappearance in Spain, according to federal authorities.

David Knezevich, also known as David Knezevic and Dusan Knezevic, was hit with a single count of kidnapping after a grand jury returned an indictment on May 15, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida announced.

According to court documents, Knezevich allegedly traveled out of Miami International Airport to kidnap his wife, who was residing in Spain. Before arriving in Spain, Knezevich rented a car in Serbia and drove to his wife’s location.

On the last day Knezevich’s wife was seen alive, he was captured on video surveillance in Spain purchasing spray paint and duct tape. Later that evening, a person believed to be Knezevich was seen spray painting the surveillance camera at his wife’s apartment building in Madrid, wearing a face covering and a motorcycle helmet.

Knezevich was arrested on May 4, 2024, after flying into Miami International Airport from Serbia. He was subsequently detained pending trial on May 10, 2024, by Chief Magistrate Judge Edwin G. Torres.

If convicted, Knezevich faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. The case was investigated by the FBI and Spanish law enforcement authorities, with assistance from the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs and the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida and the FBI’s Miami Field Office made the announcement, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Lacee Elizabeth Monk prosecuting the case. Anyone with related information is urged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324).
