A McKees Rocks man has been indicted on a charge of violating federal firearms laws, according to authorities.
Dayvon Gandy, 28, of Robb Street in McKees Rocks, was charged with having a gun and ammunition in violation of federal law, Acting United States Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman announced today.
According to the Indictment, on July 20, 2021, Gandy was in possession of a firearm and ammunition, which is prohibited under federal law for an individual who has been convicted of a felony.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of not more than ten (10) years in prison, a fine of $250,000 or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Christopher M. Cook is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police conducted the investigation leading to the Indictment in this case.
This case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the centerpiece of the Department of Justice’s violent crime reduction efforts. PSN is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
