ROCKFORD — A federal inmate at Thomson Penitentiary in Thompson, Ill., was convicted Tuesday for the assault of a federal correctional officer.

A federal jury found 49-year-old Joseph Van Sach guilty following a seven-day trial in federal court in Rockford. According to evidence presented during the trial, Van Sach forcibly assaulted the officer on April 2, 2019, while the officer was performing his official duties.
