Fentanyl Deal Lands McAlester Man 96 Months
A McAlester man has been sentenced to 96 months imprisonment for his role in distributing fentanyl in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Zachery Scott Kerns, 30, was found guilty of violating Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(C) and was handed down the sentence by the Honorable James H. Payne, District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The charges against Kerns stemmed from an investigation by the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office, the District 18 Drug Task Force, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The investigation revealed that on or about December 4, 2014, Kerns knowingly and intentionally distributed a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of fentanyl, a Schedule II controlled substance.
Kerns will remain in custody pending transportation to the designated federal facility at which the nonparoleable sentence will be served. Assistant United States Attorneys Timothy Hammer and Shannon Henson represented the United States in the case.
The 96-month sentence is a significant blow to Kerns, who will spend nearly eight years behind bars for his role in distributing fentanyl. The sentence is a reminder of the severity of the crime and the consequences that come with it.
