Fentanyl Dealer Sentenced to 10+ Years
A major fentanyl dealer has been sentenced to over a decade in prison after being found with a large stash of the deadly substance. Devonnte White, 29, of Huntersville, North Carolina, was convicted of possessing with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, a charge that carries a significant prison sentence.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York, White was arrested on January 15, 2021, after a federal search warrant was executed at an apartment on Court Street in Rochester. When officers entered the apartment, White dropped two bags of fentanyl to the floor, and a total of 1.5 kilograms of fentanyl, 979 grams of cocaine, and 571 grams of heroin were recovered from the scene.
The investigation, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, was a result of months of work by law enforcement officers. The search warrant was executed at the apartment, which was occupied only by White at the time of the arrest. Investigators found a range of evidence, including scales, bags, diluents for processing narcotics for distribution, five cell phones, and $3,954 in U.S. currency.
White’s sentencing, which was handed down by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford, was the culmination of an investigation that spanned over a year. The sentence of 121 months in prison is a significant blow to White, who will now face the consequences of his actions.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert A. Marangola, who handled the case, stated that the defendant was arrested following the execution of a federal search warrant. Marangola’s statement highlights the importance of the investigation and the need for law enforcement to crack down on fentanyl distribution.
The DEA’s Special Agent-in-Charge Ray Donovan praised the work of the investigators and expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of the case. Donovan stated that the recovery of such a large quantity of illicit substances is a significant victory for the community.
The sentencing of White serves as a reminder of the dangers of fentanyl and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat its distribution. With the number of overdose deaths continuing to rise, it is clear that the fight against fentanyl is far from over.
