Jerod Arthur Young, 48, a Utah man with a taste for destruction, has been charged with distributing fentanyl that led to the death of his victim in a cold-blooded drug deal gone wrong.
According to the Department of Justice, Young intentionally distributed fentanyl to the victim on November 15, 2023, in Uintah County, Utah. The victim’s body was discovered, and a toxicology report revealed the presence of fentanyl, which was later confirmed as the cause of her death.
The indictment, unsealed on April 17, 2024, charges Young with distribution of fentanyl resulting in death. His initial court appearance was held on May 1, 2024, before a U.S. Magistrate Judge at the United States District Courthouse in downtown Salt Lake City.
Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI Salt Lake City Field Office’s Vernal Resident Agency, have been investigating the case and have gathered evidence linking Young to the crime. Assistant United States Attorney Sam Pead of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah is prosecuting the case.
The case falls under the umbrella of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, and setting strategic enforcement priorities.
An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. Young’s case is set for a three-day trial on July 9, 2024, at the United States District Courthouse in Salt Lake City.
The harsh reality is that fentanyl is killing Americans at an alarming rate, and cases like Young’s are a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of this deadly opioid. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case closely and bring you updates as more information becomes available.
U.S. Attorney Trina A. Higgins of the District of Utah announced the charges against Young. The case is a grim reminder of the dangers of fentanyl and the importance of holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
The investigation is ongoing, and the Grimy Times urges anyone with information about this case to come forward and assist law enforcement in their efforts to bring justice to the victim and her loved ones.
