Brazilian National Sentenced to Four Years in Prison for Selling Firearms
BOSTON – In a harsh verdict delivered in federal court in Boston yesterday, Fernando Ferreira, a 32-year-old Brazilian national, was handed a four-year prison sentence for his involvement in selling 11 firearms, including one equipped with a large capacity magazine and another with an obliterated serial number.
According to court documents, the firearms sales took place between April 2020 and November 2022. During this period, Ferreira knowingly sold the firearms to several individuals, ignoring federal laws that regulate the sale of such items.
Ferreira’s sentence was meted out by U.S. District Court Judge, Fernando Ferreira, who deemed the defendant’s actions a serious offense against federal law.
As per the terms of his sentence, Ferreira will spend the next four years behind bars, followed by a three-year period of supervised release. The defendant’s prison term is set to begin immediately, and he will be remanded into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the sale of firearms with obliterated serial numbers is a federal offense. Similarly, the sale of firearms equipped with large capacity magazines is also prohibited under federal law. Ferreira’s actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for these laws, and his sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences such actions can have.
